| Ibinasura ng Malacañang ang panukalang revival sa death penalty sa Pilipinas kasunod ng karumal-dumal na pagpatay sa UST cum laude na si Cyrish Magalang.
Una ng nanawagan ang Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) kay Pangulong Noynoy Aquino para ibalik na ang nasabing capital punishment.
Sinabi ni Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte, nananatili ang posisyon ng Pangulong Aquino na hindi pa handa rito ang Pilipinas dahil may problema pa rin sa ating justice system.
Ayon kay Valte, hindi pa sila 100 porsyentong kumpiyansa na ang mga nahahatulang guilty ay mga totoong akusado sa mga krimen.
Sa ngayon, paigtingin pa umano ng gobyerno ang kampanya laban sa iligal na droga lalo pa't sabog sa drugs ang mga suspek.
Magpapatuloy din umano ang police visibility na napatunayang malaking hadlang laban sa mga krimen.
"Ang naging posisyon po ng Pangulong Aquino pagdating sa death penalty ay…kung sigurado na po tayo na lahat ng mapapatawan niyan ay talagang may sala, pwede po. Ngunit doon po sa sistema natin ngayon na…wala po talagang kasiguruhan kung ‘yung nabibigyan po ng ganyang sentensya ay talagang may sala ay huwag po muna. Hindi pa po muna tayo… Wala pa po tayong kumpyansang ibalik," ani Valte. "Dapat ho walang letup doon sa kampanya natin at hindi lang siguro doon sa kontra droga, pati doon sa kampanya natin to bring down the crime rates. Ang intention naman po talaga ng ating kapulisan ay tuloy-tuloy at wala hong humpay ‘yung kanilang kampanya para maiwasan ‘yung mga ganitong krimen. Kasi nakikita naman natin ‘yung police visibility really helps a lot katulad ‘nung ang dami-dami nating kababayan na nagpunta doon sa sementeryo dito sa Metro Manila ‘nung nakaraang tatlong araw na".
